My name is Simon Hardy and a few years ago I created So Provence, So Alps!, a small agency specializing in Provence and the Alps. My passion for travel began in childhood in Brittany, inspired by fishing, hiking, and my parents’ love of exploring France.
Later, studies in environmental preservation and experiences abroad in Asia and Africa taught me new ways of seeing, doing, and sharing. These journeys shaped my belief in unique, immersive experiences and meaningful encounters.
Back in Provence, at a time of ecological and social challenges, I co-founded France By Locals with the conviction that tourism can — and must — make a positive impact.
My professional background has given me a strong understanding of travelers’ needs. As a tour guide, I learned to adapt to different cultures; as a receptionist, I focused on customer satisfaction; and as a travel agent, I mastered creating tailor-made itineraries.
Today at France By Locals, I combine this experience with a commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism. Our mission is to craft meaningful journeys that create lasting memories while respecting local ecosystems — leaving a positive imprint through travel.
Driven by curiosity and a love for adventure, I’ve explored the world from a young age, yet I remain deeply rooted in southern France. Traveling in my converted van helped me uncover hidden gems and fall in love with the country’s diversity.
My goal is to share this passion with travelers — through gastronomy, activities, and authentic encounters with locals, the true heart of every journey. At France By Locals, I am proud to uphold values of authenticity, responsibility, and sustainability, ensuring each trip respects both nature and culture.
Since my early twenties, travel has been the thread running through my life. A year in Mexico, another in Australia, and a long backpacking trip in Southeast Asia shaped my passion for exploration and slow adventure. From biking across France to hiking the GR10, I’ve learned resilience, joy, and the beauty of taking time.
After 13 years in Barcelona, I returned to my native Provence with a mission: to help others rediscover France through authentic experiences, especially for families and agritourism. With over ten years in tourism, I’ve built strong partnerships, curated unique activities, and designed meaningful trips. At France By Locals, I’m proud to create journeys that go beyond clichés and connect travelers with the true heart of our regions.
The idea of a local travel agency dedicated to a region was born in 2015 in Nyons, in Drôme Provençale. Since its origins, the concept of So Provence, So Alps ! was to address local customers and deploy immersive and active short stays in the South-East of France.
Almost 10 years later, France By Locals is in the Old Port of Marseille and takes care of the entire France destination. With this same motivation: to travel less but better, more slowly while getting a change of scenery!
